Erika Munson has never been to a pride parade. But this weekend, she will be in one, along with at least 100 other active Mormons who — decked out in their Sunday best — will march at the head of the Utah Pride Parade to show support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Munson got involved after seeing her own children, as young adults, question their Mormon faith because of its stand on homosexuality, which, to them, seemed at odds with their own attitudes toward LGBT teachers, friends and neighbors and Jesus Christ’s message of love.

This right here, this is where things are headed with religion and the gays. An entire generation of young church-going people who have grown up knowing gay people. Knowing them on TV. Knowing them in books. Knowing them on the internet. Knowing them in real life. And that knowledge is fatal to prejudice, to narrow-mindedness, to bigotry. Over the course of time, every branch of the Christian church has used the Bible to defend slavery, rape, genocide, coverture, and all manner of crimes against humanity — but reason wills out. The church (Catholic! Baptist! LDS!) and its political counterparts (Lookin’ at you, Republican Party!) will be forced to bring its doctrine and talking points in line with the values of an evolved human conscience, or risk becoming irrelevant and universally loathed.
Way to fight the good fight, Erika Munson. You are an oak of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.
especially wonderful because...HH describes why very eloquently,
